Feminism

When I was a very young child, say around primary school, I hung out a lot with my eldest sister. We did a lot of things together, or should I say, she did a lot of things and dragged me with her, since I was an innocent and vulnerable cute little boy. She experimented her first few cookings on me and my older brother which later made us capable of eating almost any food exist today, dragged us into her first independent driving experience which later ended up without fuel in the middle of the road in Shah Alam, went from stores to stores finding and renting the cheapest videos available in Shah Alam and many other fun and scary things. Thus, I grew up being very attached to her and many of her interests and well-beings. Consequently, I grew up liking to read many of her books as well, namely Asterix, Tintin, Vogue, Cosmopolitan and a few others. Unfortunately, her novel reading hobby did not came to me somehow, probably because I much preferred stuffs in more graphical manner.

I find female's magazines are a lot more interesting than men's. Half of me is screaming in loathe of myself saying such thing. Yet, the other half is in favour for the tiny winy feminin side in me. Hey, all males has a bit of feminism in them, so stop and think for a bit before you blokes start laughing at this nonsense. Anyway, the point I was reaching is, I find female's magazines bring more benefits in reading for me rather than men's. Although men's magazines are more graphical which supposely come very near to my interest, but I would still like to bring something beneficial in reading out from the magazine. Blokes' magazines such as FHM and Maxim are too graphical and I find the articles in them are almost pointless, at least to myself. Nonetheless, I still buy a few of them once in a while, given a suitable page cover and the gorgeous models in side. How do I get hold of those female's magazines? Let say, my eldest sister and I share the same toilet. No, I never used her magazines to jerk off you shitheads. I read and learnt a lot about women and I find females is such an amazing species. Again, no I still like to be a guy and I'd would really love to keep my balls.

Where am I going with this? Ahh here, a few days ago, I borrowed this book from a friend of mine, Psyc. A book written by Wendy Straker entitled Men at Work. This book is written for the female species to learn about men, their occupations and the stories behind them. A job-by-job search for Mr. Right. Interesting I thought it was. A guide in dating book.

Dating a doctor is horrible because he'll be 'on call' at least twice a week, he'll often look pale and won't make a dime until they're at least 35, if he's lucky. However, the good parts are he'll hardly have business trips, no clients to entertain, he will definitely take good care of your family and he can prescribe medicine! Lawyers cancel dates at the last minute and treat the partners at their law firms better than they treat you but many of them like nice expensive things and they would really like to share them with you and once they've made partner, they'll get their free weekend relaxing in their country house, where you will be there as well. There are also the actor, the electrician, the pilot, the personal trainer and many other professions containing the good and bad parts of each. I can't write about them all. It's a book of 296 pages. Find the book and read it yourselflah.

Of course there more to men's professions when it comes to relationship such as their habits and personalities but by learning about their jobs, females can be more cautious before they start nagging to their respective poor male. I enjoyed pretty much reading this interesting book and I wonder, is there another book of this kind about women at work?

I'm off to Penang and Langkawi tomorrow for a fun 5 days vacation. You readers have a good weekend as well!

Down Memory Lane

It's been about 4 years since I last held the name as a STAR student. It was the day on the 4th of February 1998 I first put on the glorious red necktie and ever since then, I held the pride taking honour of the name Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Five years I was in one of the most prestigious premiere schools in the country and until today, after 4 years, I still hold high my love and pride for this institution.

I visited STAR last weekend. I travelled to Ipoh with Psyc, Krie, Khizer and Frix. Yes, we are all former students of STAR wanting to spend a few days of our holidays at our beloved school. Poyo, I know. Psyc wanted to help the Wind Orchestra group and asked us to join him, and so we did happily. It was awesome having to meet a few of our former educators. It was kind of difficult to reach for all of the teachers since it was already the weekend, so we only managed to meet Mr. Azli; the band teacher, Mr. Haswani; the band instructor, Mrs. Nuraini; Add-Math teacher and Mr. Zulkarnain; the Vice Principal.

Besides band, basketball was one of my strongest passion in STAR. I played basketball with the school players on Saturday evening, taught them a few stuffs and spent a few hours with them at night telling some old school basketball stories and gave a few advices. It was breathtaking. Cutting down through the baseline of STAR basketball court after all these years. I almost broke into tears when I played with those kids. It was the highlight of my trip right there on the basketball court. I still have my AllStars basketball number 9 jersey in my closet. One of the pride of my memory.

The band room is still looking the same. My old saxaphone is still there. I picked up the case, opened it and assembled the old gold lacquer Yamaha student edition Bb tenor saxaphone. You see, playing a saxaphone is not that far different from playing a recorder, except saxaphones produce sounds from the vibration between the reed and the mouthpiece. Thus, it requires more mouth strength and apparently, I've seem to lose a lot of it. Yet, it was still fun having to jam again with my old fellow bandmates, running through the scores playing a few of our old tunes. Nice.

Kinta City was, and still our popular spot for outings. Yet, Taman Cempaka seems to be more appealing to us. Komik Beng, Hi-Info Cybercafe, Restoran Sri Cempaka, Benteng, etc. The new luxurious Imax cybercafe. Greentown Mall. Masjid Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Dairy. Three days was not enough. I wished I can spend more time there in Ipoh. I should have meet more of my old teachers. Mr. King, Julie, Mrs. Lee, Mr. Ng, Mrs. Mastura, Ms Zuraida and many others. They were among the most biggest influences that have made me today. Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman. The teachers. The students. The playing field and courts. The dining hall. Surau Am. The school workers. The canteen. Songkok. Lot 10. Astaka. Turf. The Main Hall. Red House. Batch of 42. The cheers. The songs. The flag. Rouse up.

It was a great weekend for me. Thanks Psyc, Krie, Khizer, Frix and Tasy for such a great time. STAR is having its 50 years celebration around this year. I wanted so much to join this festival but apparently I'm not that important for the school board to sponsor my flight tickets for me from New Zealand. Nonetheless, congratulations STAR for its 50 years of excellences. My blood, pride and joy.

Between Green and Black

The Conventional, The Sceptics and The Conservative

Changes. Often you will see these three existences in the nature conduct of revolution. Well, we will skip the thought of The Ignorants for now because unless there's free food somewhere, they will remain undetected under the radar.

Changes can stretch it meanings from changing your pants in your room, to changing a nation's political ideology in the General Election. This morning I woke up on the different side of my bed. An idea came up. I thought I might try wearing a green t-shirt today on going out to drive my mom to a Cambodian village in Sungai Buloh. It is definitely not my usual colour. I might not look my best in it. Who knows I might stumbled upon Aishwarya Rai there and I could have actually caught her attention if I wore my usual blacks. Instead, she might thought of me as a tall handsome greeny loser. Ahh, what a waste. We could have a few awesome beautiful kids. My mom loves Hindustan-looking chicks anyway. She actually kenen-kenen me with a daughter of her Indian-Malay friend. Owh, my dad did the same as well but with a different agenda and a different girl inside his head which I could not share over here heheheheh. Bahaya. Ahh, the thought of being a grown boy. I'm just 21 still. Not that they ask or pressure me to get married or anything. Just the thought that they're starting to take me as an adult. Nice. I'm having trouble picking up a t-shirt to wear and they already start mentioning about the woman. Maybe choosing a t-shirt to wear IS a lot tougher than choosing a wife. Mm. ... I can't think of anything to justify that. Maybe later, like 10 years from now.

Apparently, I don't have a green t-shirt. Well, I have my green collared school band t-shirt in the closet. Ahh, wearing a band t-shirt will definitely not attract Aishwarya Rai, or even her ugly fat assistant Kushboo, especially when it is green. Geeky green band nerd. *Sigh* I love my band's background but at the moment, it is something to be ashamed of. Anyway, I never thought of buying myself a nice green cool t-shirt. I like to keep my closet content to be plain in blacks and navy blue with a little bit of cream and whites. So, no green t-shirt for today. Maybe I should find and buy one. Thus, at the end, I gonna wear my usual blacks and wishing Aishwarya Rai might have a visiting plan or her car broke down somewhere around Sungai Buloh. Ahh, maybe I should bring along my mechanical tools as well. So when I gonna experiment myself with a green t-shirt? I like blacks, it works well for me all this year and I gonna keep it that way.

Black is often associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery. Mystery. Mmm.

Happy New Year

Back around 153 B.C., Janus, a legendary God from the Roman mythology, was placed at the head of the calendar (whatever that means). The two faces Roman God looking in opposite direction symbolizes of looking back on past events and forward to the future and become the ancient symbol of resolutions as many Romans seek for forgiveness from their enemies and exchange gifts before the beginning of the year. It was during the year 46 B.C., Julius Caesar introduced the Julian Calendar, which was later developed to Gregorian Calendar we widely use today, when January was accepted as the beginning month of a year, named after Janus; the God of gates, doorways, the beginning and the ending.

2007. Interesting. It's the end of the previous year and the beginning of a new chapter in the Gregorian Calendar. What door would 2007 opens for me and where would it lead me to? Some people do some introspections during this time of the year. How were they doing during the past years and what can they do for the coming episodes in their lives. I am one of these many people. Well, I am talking about the major introspection. Not the kind that you have when you're in the toilet! This is about the New Year's resolutions. The real deal.

There are many things I wish to improve in my lives. So many I couldn't choose which one to start to think about. Having many imperfections and weaknesses in life, how one could not lose its self-worthy of him or herself and thus, start leaking some self-respect and confidence. This is not necessarily a major breakdown but somehow, at the age of 21 or even as you grow older, we are getting more particular about how we turn out into, as a human being.

A question that usually pops up in my head is, "How are things that are matter to me at the moment?" Ahh, tricky. What are things that matter to me anyway? What was it before and how will it change in the future? How are they? Family, love life, social relationship and activities, education, finance, self-esteem, sports and hobbies, etc. Every bit of these are important for many human beings on this planet. Priority which usually distinguishes these people from one another. Thus, I have yet to decide how my priority would be. 2007 is about less than an hour away. I'm turning 22 in June this year. I envy my friends of my age who seem to be doing very well in their lives; studies, love life, social, etc. I do realize there are among them who're actually less fortunate than I am because I sense some response that sounds kinda like "Aww come on your life is not that bad," and stuffs as such. I'm no pessimist, but I don't want to be among those wishful thinking people as well. Aim high some people say.

My wish for 2007? I want to enjoy things that are matter to me as much as I can. The more common phrase would be 'Enjoy life to the fullest', but how is mine different? Things that matter to me that makes the difference and I hope you're in it as well. Thank you 2006 and I wish you all a great new year of 2007.
